Always choose safety
  • Set up an extension ladder using the 4:1 ratio: for every four feet of length, the base must be one foot out from the wall to ensure a safe 75-degree angle
  • Do not stand above the indicated safe point on the ladder
  • Do not stand on the top step or the top cap of a stepladder - you can lose your balance
  • Do not straddle a stepladder by standing on the paint tray
  • Store ladders where they are protected from the elements
  • Do not expose ladders to corrosive substances or to excessive heat or moisture
  • Hang ladders horizontally on racks that have support points every 6' (2m) to prevent sagging
